Welcome to the St Thomas a Becket website, and thank you for taking the time to look. We hope you will find it useful. If it does not contain the information you need, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Our Past
St Thomas a Becket Roman Catholic Church, designed by Edward Goldie (1856-1921), is an impressive Victorian Gothic Grade II Listed Building situated on Wandsworth's West Hill - where it has stood since 1895. The Parish has existed since the establishing of a Mission in 1841, when rooms above the George and Dragon Pub, then at the foot of West Hill, were used as a chapel. This accommodation proved inadequate, and a small church, designed by Pugin, was built in the centre of Wandsworth in 1847. This served as a place of worship for over 40 years, and the building of the present church was begun in 1893.

Our Present
Our resident Parish Priest, Father Gerry Ewing, has been with us for 11 Years and has proved to be a wonderful asset to our lively and vibrant Church congregation, which represents a complete cross section of the local community. Our links with people of other Christian denominations and other Faiths, are important to us - as is our involvement in the life of the town. Whilst we believe that people are more important that buildings, we also recognise that it was our responsibility to maintain the Grade II Listed Church of St Thomas a Becket, which is both a religious and secular centre.
Over the past 10 years Father Gerry has been the instigator in the major restoration works that has taken place. The initial work started with the community facilities; secondly, the exterior works; and then finally, in 2006 the interior of the Church was fully restored. This included the building of a new Altar and Ambo and under-floor heating was installed. The building is enhanced by floodlighting and its restored bells ring out over Wandsworth and beyond. The fine views from its tower are second to none in the area.
Our Future
Although the restoration work is now complete, the Church has an extremely large outstanding debt. We have been blessed to have been so well supported over the years, by both Parishioners and other sources, but we do still need your continued support to help us clear the Restoration Debt.
